COLD WEATHER DRESSING

The weather has finally started to feel like winter here in London and that calls for tactical layering.

It's something I suck at because, being bigger on top than on the bottom, layering (especially with bulky wool) makes me look mahoosive. I envy women like Susie from Style Bubble because she can layer until the cows come home and still look vaguely normal. I would look like a bag lady shielding myself from an Alaskan storm if I attempted her looks and I am totally jealous of her freedom when it comes to fashion because of it.

I am currently trying to layer with thin knits and thicker cardies but I'm basically crossing my fingers and wishing it was summer. I am NOT a winter dresser.

Richard Nicoll Print Top

I self vetoed the sock / shoe combo yesterday before I left the house. I thought it was too 'man repelling' for my own good. Quite frankly, who gives a shit? I changed into pumps instead with bare feet and was utterly FREEZING all day. The first outfit may scare off half of the population, but it would have left me in the relative comfort of a normal body temperature, which in book is always the more favourable situation. Live and learn, live and learn.

Hunter Short Wellington Boots

Panic purchased Hunter short wellies from ASOS before going to New York. Mine were in matt black rather than navy, but they seem to have sold out. So glad I got them...nothing separated me from these for the whole weekend, apart from my 12 mile run round Central Park in my trainers. Comfy as heck to walk in, not so high you get sweaty legs in jeans (or am I the only person who finds this happens?) and wearable with skirts too.

Sartorial Jump For Joy

I've been in New York for a long weekend. Dressing for snowy weather is hard. The grit and salt trash your shoes so it's sensible to opt for waterproof or heavy duty footwear. You get cold so you want to wear many layers as possible and preferably lots of wool. I end up looking like a bulky farmer when everyone else manages to appear chic instead.

I have been trying to use The Sartorialist as my guide.

How perfect is this photo?

Richard Nicoll Print Top

I am dying to wear this Richard Nicoll print top. It's made out of the sheerest fabric, so not really suitable for freezing New York or London. Roll on Spring, please!

I want this JC de CASTELBAJAC Bambi Coat...

...just because.
