ZARA FLORAL PRINT JACKET

When I saw this jacket on the sale rack at Zara I pounced on it for two reasons. 

First was as a replacement for a Zara blazer I bought eons ago in Barcelona, a brown and floral linen mix that I loved. Sadly in a jet lagged fug as I went up and down the aisles of a Melbourne supermarket I dropped and lost it. The loss of my favourite blazer was much mourned and they got sick of me in Safeway asking if anyone had handed it in for the next 4 weeks on the trot (they hadn't, obviously). 

The second reason little till bells started ringing was the Celine Resort 2012 collection, specifically the floral separates look. Um, how amaze? And of course the Jil Sander S/S digital flower print still resonates - the colours of the Zara blazer share the same vibrancy.

CLASSIC, ALMOST

I would like to say the older I get the more I invest in classic pieces. It's true to an extent, but part of me still lusts after JC de Castelbajac ultra kitsch pieces (like the current Yoox offerings) and I still buy impractical sequin trousers even though I won't be able to sit down in the bloody things.

Is the socks and boots combo a bit mutton on someone over 30? I couldn't decide, but went with it anyway. Nobody actually laughed in my face, so it can't be that bad...can it?

NEW SHOES

I've got two big posts I need to write - a guide to the thrift stores of the Upper East Side in Manhattan, and a review of Tabio sports socks which I have now worn frequently enough to adequately give my opinion. Sadly, these posts take time, so here's a quick shoe update of my purchases this week in the sales. 

You've already seen these on one outfit this week - Ksubi boots from Farfetch.com which have just been reduced further. Arghhhh! They've got enough heel for a strut, but not so much that you're crippled. 

I was also rather chuffed by these River Island sandals, not least because I wanted them full price but never got around to buying them. £44.99 reduced to £15. So, kinda makes up for missing the further reductions on the boots? Sorted. 

HENRY A LA PENSEE KNITTED JACKET WITH CUPID BUTTONS

Do you ever buy something because there's a detail about you just love? I almost didn't buy this knitted jacket / cardigan as I knew I had spent too much money on my trip to New York already, but just standing in the thrift store with it I could already picture the intense regret in my mind if I walked away from it. 

I mean, who can resist a cupid button...

Turns out the $125 vintage jacket was in the half off sale, so I got it for $62. When I returned home I tried googling the designer and although there isn't much about them, turns out they were active from the 1930s until the 1950s. My jacket is in perfect condition, not bad for an item of clothing that probably getting on for 60 years old, eh? It fits like a dream, the buttons lift it from classic to quirky and there is even a gold chain sewn into the hem on the back to keep the lines clean. I die.
