Print Overload

I've been meaning to try and pair these two prints for some time now. I snapped up this t-shirt in the Housing Works $1 sale back in September because it immediately reminded me of the brown and black jersey skirt I had at home - I thought the mismatched prints might work well together. Once they were on the only way to go was by layering on even more prints to create a look that I like to think tips it's hat at Marni and maybe even DVN. I think this my favourite outfit in quite a while...

Alpha 60 Rhino Print Top

I've said how much I love me some animal print. Usually it's leopard, tiger, snakeskin or crocodile...so the chance of having a rhino print top was a total no brainer. Alpha 60 is an Australian brand that I've mentioned before, thanks to a fabulous shift dress I picked up in the Liberty sale over the summer. I really like their unusual eye for prints on super slinky silk, which gives the feeling of really dressing up without having to sacrifice your sense of humour - just my cup of tea.

I don't know why, but I cannot get enough animal print in my life right now. I am thinking that if I collect enough I could perhaps start a travelling Zoo.

My Grandad Cardigan

One of my favourite smells in the world is coal tar soap. My Grandad used to wash with it so when I hugged him I'd always catch a faint whiff. Today I can't pass a bar in the supermarket or chemist without going in for a quick sniff and all sorts of childhood memories come flooding back. I bought this cardigan because it reminded me of him too. The slightly rough knit, the woven leather buttons and pockets all scream my Grandad circa 1985.

Charity Shop Heaven

One of my best charity shop buys ever was this vintage Jaeger jacket for £10.99. I love the fabric, the detail, the cut. It's just perfect.

Silas Skull Bag

It takes Halloween to make me realise just how many skull related items I have in my possession. I tell myself that it's my background as an archaeologist, hulking skeletons back from digs that fostered my interest skulls and skeletons (the Ashish skeleton track suit makes me sick with want and jealousy).

My friend has this bag, used over many years and it has turned a lovely dark brown from wear and tear. I  don't use mine because I have bag envy - whilst it is lovely it in no way looks as nice as my friend's. I know if I actually used it I could hope to achieve the same weathered look in about 5 years, but I am a quick fixer sometimes and I want it aged right now. Still, perhaps now is the time to embark on operation: bag age.

Halloween Pt 4 - Chanel Bag Costume

Well this is my costume...inspired by the Beckerman Bite Plate doggie Chanel Bag. It's a bit hard to walk through doors / past people / go to the loo, but it's great for resting your drink on as you talk to people. The added bonus is that you can stash a camera and sweeties inside on the bottom ledge, so in terms of contents it's much like my real Chanel bag in many ways.

And my pumpkin pie. Tasted pretty damn good even if I did cook it myself...
