Read My Lips

\

Not very inspired on the outfit front today (or the title), but I am loving my new Revlon Matte lipstick in Really Red which makes me feel glam even if I'm just wearing jeans and t-shirt. Apart from Nars lippie (£20) this is the best lip colour I've ever owned (£8), and I've owned lots over the years...it has a great matte finish, doesn't bleed, doesn't end up on your teeth / glass and stays put for a whole evening of sipping white wine in the pub. I am a bit of a failure on the girl front when it comes to makeup - I can slap some on before leaving the house, but I'm always too busy gossiping / drinking / eating to reapply it when I'm out, so this is perfect for me.

Things That Will Soon Live With Me

I know I mostly post about clothes, but my blog is called Must Own More, and along with shoes, trousers and tops I also quite like buying stuff for my house. I had a bumper time this Saturday in the junk shops, antique yards and charity shops of Somerset and North Devon...

My Mum and I have a thing about naive art, especially anything with historical connotations, she has a wonderful school project of the Bayeux tapestry she picked up in a charity shop that always gives us a giggle, and this is my version - The Canterbury Tales. It's massive - about 3 ft long, I can't wait to put it in my living room.

A poster display from the Taunton Odeon that was knocked down a few years back. This was the venue of my first cinematic experience, The Fox & The Hound, I found it so traumatic that I had to be taken out in tears. So this is my history, you see? Once this is cleaned up I'm going to have to figure out what I want to put inside...suggestions have already been made that it is the aforementioned film poster.

The most mind boggling travel case from the 40's / 50's that only cost £65. It has two drawers and one large compartment that folds down with fabric ties to keep your shirts / jumpers in situ. The hangers clip back and can be fanned out to allow you to access your jackets or tops. It still has old travel stickers all over it too. I adore this, but figuring out where to put it is going to be a bugger.

And finally along with assorted Coronation china to feed my addiction to all things QEII, this lovely china bowl. The matching jug is long gone, but I love the size of it. One day when I have a girly bathroom rather than a mirror and marble monstrosity this will have pride of place. It was only a fiver.

So, that concludes my interior buys run down. I have decided that September will be the month of a house overhaul that will see painting / wallpapering / picture hanging and rearranging on a scale worthy of World Of Interiors which this month features Debo Devonshire's house at Chatsworth (not Chatsworth itself). She may be in her 80's, but I heart everything about her, including her decorating style and the bathroom featuring an Elvis portrait and wallpapered in silver foil.

The Really Wild Show

One of the best parts of getting dressed in the morning is using your clothes to express your mood. I am super tired and a bit grumpy today, hence the choice of a roaring ape to warn anyone coming into contact with me to tread lightly.

My new favourite, and not very grown up accessory. I know I'm in my 30's and probably shouldn't be wearing a furry animal on my head, but it is so much fun. More gurning from me today. Sorry.

Road Trip

I'm back. I've been on the road for more than 12 of the last 36 hours and I'm shattered. Off to bed now. But I thought I'd post two pictures from this morning in Newcastle and my new baby - a lovely ebay 80's Chanel rucksack.

Shopping My Closet

I'm down in Somerset this weeknd with my parents, and guess what...they made me tidy my room. Yep, I have a wardrobe overflow they wanted cleared out in time for the village Fete next week and unusually I obliged. It turned out to be pretty bloody good fortune - not only were there loads of things I'd forgotten I owned in there, there were also items that I thought I'd lost / donated etc that will now be returning for another crack of the whip.

Apologies for the crappy iPhone photos - I forgot to bring my camera cable. Not smart.

Amazing fur booties bought from a charity shop about 10 years ago - they are actually gum boot covers - there is a pair of 1960's sandals inside that slip out so you can go from the snow / rain outside to the dance hall / restuarant with ease! In mint condition. I die. Faux fur trimmed, so very this A/W, non?

A vintage Zandra Rhodes t-shirt dress. I used to work for her when the FTM (Fashion & Textile Museum) was being set up, and bought quite a lot of her dresses in the years after. This was an ebay find. It is so short it's indecent, so I think leggings will be in order if I wear this out.

I can remember buying this in charity shop in Lewisham when I was about 17 and having a massive argument with my Mum because she thought it was stupid and ugly. Of course it is, that's the point. I used to wear this at university with Japanese kung fu slippers. I will busting this out very soon.

The best home made jumper ever? Another charity shop find years ago...worn with Abercrombie & Fitch cargo pants that I barely took off for about three years in the early noughties - runner chic - you could fit spare tapes, batteries and mics in the pockets.

A Kenzo Jungle dress - a rare moment of sensible dressing in a sea of quirky finds.

A Head For Problems

Yesterday I posted a picture of me wearing a hat. I love hats, but I never feel entirely comfortable wearing one. I think this was the last time that I felt truly 'as one' with my head gear.

After The Sartorialist...

Yesterday The Sartorialist posted a picture that was rather wonderful. The woman in it looked happy, relaxed and was wearing a great clashing combination of patterned pants and bright tops.

I looked more carefully and realised they were my trousers. Well, not mine, but they're from Topshop and I have a pair too. I usually wear them with either a grey American Apparel top or a brown Marni one, but after seeing the super clash above I went for my own hyper patterned clash. I do love a loud outfit.
