Fantasy Shoe of The Week - ASOS AMES

Image from asos.com

Hello world, this is the Ames suede ankle boot from asos.com. Isn't she nice? I can't buy her / them because I awoke on Saturday morning (okay, I was hungover...I mean afternoon) to discover I had indulged in a spot of drunk bidding. And won. I now own a totally useless dress I fear I will never wear. Oops.

Winter Dressing

One of the few good things about cold weather is being able to wear the dresses in your wardrobe that are slightly too short to wear without tights and still walk the line of decency. This is one of those such dresses.

Dress - H&M from eons ago
Tights - M&S
Boots - We Who See from Urban Outfitters (Major trauma to get these click here for story)

Superdrug have a Barry M offer - 2 pots for £5, which means for a tenner I've got enough new colours (and the instant nail effects finisher - amazing!) to keep me experimenting until at least Christmas. This is my favourite so far, Dusky Mauve, It looks grey in low light, but when seen up close has a metallic purplish tinge - I've tried to capture it, but it's quite hard, my basic point and shoot isn't made for detail at all.

Martin Margiela Star Ring

Dear Santa - other than a puppy, DSLR camera, central heating that works and a platinum BA card (WHICH I NEVER SEEM TO GET), please note that I'd also like this...

Yes, aimlessly browsing on Net A Porter about two days after I promised myself there was to be no more personal shopping for a while I stumbled across this ring by Martin Margiela. It's sold out in every size other than a small, which I think would be too tiny for me. Here's hoping Topshop or River Island come up with a £10 'tribute' in double time.

The Random Outfit Post

It is pretty chilly in my house right now. The temperature outside is dropping and the central heating is playing up (why does it do this every year, no matter where I may be living?). No heating = wearing sweatpants in the non Alexander Wang way and lots of shawls / blankets to perfect my 'derelict' look. The derelict look also means no up to date outfits to post (unless you counted it as an early Halloween outfit), so here are some old ones that were worn in happier, sunnier times. Sigh.

The Clothes That Got Away

When I was about 15 my friend and I became obsessed with an editorial in the (then new) magazine Nylon. It featured a girl in a series of bright block colour wigs shaped into long bobs wearing various takes on men's tailoring. One of the photos had the model in a blue wig wearing a white blazer. Oh! How we coveted that blazer and spent ages dreaming up ways to own one whilst listening to the Wu Tang Clan in our bedrooms. But alas, we only usually had enough money to share a Happy Meal from McDonalds and buy a travelcard that could take us to Central London where we could roam free, clothes purchasing was a strictly parental affair but a white blazer was deemed unsuitable and impractical and forever remained an item of clothing that got away*.

Two years ago, at an age when an Happy Meal is no longer considered adequate sustenance, I came across this white sequin blazer and immediately recalled that image that I spent hours staring at. I bought it not only for myself now, but my 15 year old self sitting in her bedroom in Lewisham.

Sequin Blazer - Zara
Top - American Apparel
Trousers - Zara
Shoes - Primark

* Other items of clothing that got away include a pink Lacoste cardigan, blue velvet hipster trousers (after the Tom Ford Gucci collection I wanted them soooooo badly but the High Street moved at a glacial pace back then), perspex Prada wedges from the S/S 98 collection (I visited them every other day in Harrods for weeks) and black buckled heeled boots (they were too expensive so I bought a white version for £20 in the Topshop sale and tried to dye them...it didn't work).
