CELINE RESORT 2012

Can't work out what I like more...the slouchy cut of trousers, white stripper shoes, Essex girl pointy courts, pattern clashes, luxe pyjamas, gold belts or the prim silhouette of the dress worked in a sheer fabric. Truly a fashion explosion of the mind.

BACK TO BASICS

Women's magazines always harp on about 'staples', mostly utter lies about how everyone needs a jersey wrap dress a decent suit and a good white shirt. Well they've never met me. Jersey wrap dresses don't flatter, a suit feels like I'm pretending to be Glenn Close and white shirts would stay pristine for approx 3 seconds. No. My staples are metallic knits, Christopher Kane tees, skinny jeans, J Brand Agnes trousers and Chanel ballet flats. At least, they are this year. Last year they were Zara trousers, American Apparel tees and Bloch flats. Still, it's important to have those fall back items you can throw on and know you'll conquer the world (ish).

NET A PORTER SALE

Oops, I did it again.

Yes, I've been bad with money.

I bought an amazing dress in the last dregs of the Net A Porter sale. Actually, I bought two, but I returned the Carven one because it looked HORRENDOUS on. You really do need to be Alexa Chung to look good in that label. Not one for the accommodation of a bosom.

SUMMER IS HERE

After a fortnight of rain it began to feel like summer again on Sunday. Finally, sandals could go back on and a straw bag was fished out of the cupboard. That's the problem with summer staples in this country - they don't get used very much. Oh well.

CRITICAL MASS

My outfits have all been pretty basic recently. I've definitely lost the art of dressing up. I think it's partly I've been so busy and also...whisper it...I'm getting fat. I've not been looking after myself (virtually no running or gym and living on takeouts and peanut M&Ms) and it's got to the point where I feel decidedly uncomfortable in my own skin. It's not Channel 4 documentary stuff yet but all my clothes feel slightly ill fitting and my favourite dresses are pulling more across the bust. If I know you in real life and turn down the chance for many drinks or dinner at Bodeans for about the next month you know why - hopefully I won't end up as bad as my Marathon hermit life earlier this year.

HANDS AND FEET

I've spend the last week on trains going backwards and forwards to a funeral and a wedding. No time for stair pictures, lots of time for instagram.

1. My Grandma's engagement ring (my most treasured possession)
2. Nike trainers, Tabio socks
3. A scary hand on the window sill at Liberty
4. A sweet treat from Amy at work
5. Self portrait of my feet

BARBOUR OUTLET SHOP

On Wednesday I went to the Barbour Outlet in Bede, near to where my Mum grew up, and I was allowed a quick 15 minutes to check it out. I picked up this Barbour coat with a Liberty lining although I'm assuming it was a sample as it was at a bargain price. If you're ever up Newcastle way and you're quite partial to a sensible outdoor coat I can wholeheartedly recommend you make a stop at the Barbour Outlet shop.

NEWCASTLE

A quick instagram photo diary of travelling up to Newcastle. It's bitter sweet to be doing this journey because a) it's for my Grandma's funeral and b) at the back of my mind I know this is the last time I'll 'have' to do it. Over the years it's become such a routine I know I'll miss it. I won't be up so often, but I'll have to make it my business to travel up once in a while.

1. Coaster on train (last time I came up I sat by the loos on the floor, this was nicer)
2. The glamour of railway sidings
3. Supplies for the trip - lip gloss, kindle, water...
4. My magazine selection. I like to challenge myself on train journeys
5. York station
6. Power station in the rain
7. Angel of the North
8. Newcastle
9. The Sage

BACK TO SCHOOL

Last night I drank too much wine and ate too much cheese. It's a wonder I can still do up my skinny jeans (but it does explain the need for baggy tops). All I need is a routine I can stick to, namely home cooked meals, a few early nights and some days off of the sauce. Easier said than done. Oh, and I should probably read a novel, that has fallen by the wayside too. How to re-learn a healthy life?
